Charlie Spivak was known around the jazz world as the man with the “golden tone”. throughout his long and storied touring career, charlie played with glenn miller, tommy dorsey, and most of the giants of the big band era. in 1967, spivak relocated to greenville to take a permanent residency at ye olde fireplace. thanks to his band, the fireplace became known as “the showplace of the south”, and drew audiences from all over the southeast. All told, spivak spent 11 years at ye olde fireplace and recorded 7 records in the area, 5 of them with mark v studio.
