Mary Ann Sexton (who has recorded as Ann as well Mary sexton) was born in Greenville February 5, 1950. She began singing in church as a child. After winning local recognition in talent shows she became the singer for soul group Elijah & The Ebonies. They recorded the single I Confess (probably at Mark V Studios) in 1968. Sexton and Ebonies saxophonist soon left to form Ann Sexton and The Masters of Soul, this group recorded two singles for Shelby, NC label Impel records. 

After The Masters of Soul Sexton embarked on a solo career. She recorded seven singles and two LP’s for the Seventy-Seven label between 1972 and 1976. A handful of other singles followed on various labels. 

In 2003, her song You’re Losing Me was featured in the film 21 Grams. This led to renewed interest in her records. In 2007, Ann Sexton took the stage again for the first time in 30 years at the Baltic Soul Weekender Festival in Germany. She has continued to perform throughout Europe since then, and much of her back catalogue has been reissued.
