this elegant and large space was opened in 1925, a few years before talking pictures became popular. not only films, but traveling performers and theatrical productions would perform throughout the year. located at 310 n. main st, the venue had a moveable stage, orchestra pit, rocking chair seats, and the best air conditioning in town. in 1925, the only venues in greenville were small movie theatres and textile hall. the grand opera house had been the main 1,000+ seat "theatre" in town. The carolina took up the role and enjoyed success until the 1960's. The building was eventually torn down in 1972.
