Chris Bouchillon was an Oconee County native who lived much of his life in Greenville. His was a musical family. Chris recorded with his family as the Bouchillon Trio and as Mr. and Mrs. Bouchillon with his wife. He recorded twelve disks, twenty songs, in Atlanta for Columbia in 1927 and ’28. His song ‘Talking Blues” is a recitation of clever verses spoken in a lilting southern drawl over a Piedmont blues guitar line. Bouchillon’s novel performance was widely mimicked, and undoubtedly influenced the creation of similar songs by woody guthrie and bob dylan.
