between the opera house era and the arena era, there was old textile hall. originally built as an exhibition center for textile shows, it also hosted concerts by national acts and local orchestras, as well as dances featuring modern acts. concerts and sporting events could draw as many as 4,000 people. After the memorial auditorium was built, textile hall eventually fell silent. in 1992 the building was demolished, leaving the peace center as the lone theater-style venue with a capacity over 2,000.
