Radio station wbbr, 1580 on the AM dial, began broadcasting October 12, 1964. The station was owned by the Piedmont Broadcasting Company. Initially, the station followed an all-country music format.
In the 1970’s the station gradually moved away from the country format, playing more and more southern gospel music. In 1975 the format became all gospel music. The station switched back and forth between gospel and country until it changed call letters to WDAB in 1992 and became a news/talk station. Noteworthy personnel include Don Dudley, Alan Riddle, and Country Earl Baughman.
